<image:caption>Wind fueled wildfires in August devastated communities in Maui. One in Kula destroyed countless structures and caused environmental ramifications. A later wildfire killed nearly 100 people and destroyed the historic town of Lahaina. Neighboring towns throughout the Hawaiian Islands and beyond rallied to the people who were displaced and those who were grieving. There is uncertainty on how long it will take to rebuild and house the displaced families and how one goes about rebuilding a town with such historic significance.Mark Ross works on cutting burnt fence on his property that was destroyed by last week’s fire on Wednesday August 16, 2023 in Kula, HI. <image:caption>Former United States President is from the small farming community of Plains, GA. Following his presidency, he did what very few former presidents have done. He returned to his small hometown to live. His legacy has helped keep the town alive. Several locations in town have become part of a national park honoring Carter. To further ensure the town’s survival, Carter and former first lady, Rosalynn Carter decided to be buried near their home in order to keep visitors coming to the town after they are gone. 2023 brought attention to Plains when it was announced that President Carter had entered hospice care and later in the year when Rossalyn passed away.A truck drives through Main Street as a sign signals that Plains, GA is the hometown of former United States President Jimmy Carter as the sun begins to set on Sunday February 19, 2023 in Plains, GA. <image:title>Lincoln’s Legacy</image:title>
<image:caption>Abraham Lincoln routinely ranks as one of our nation's most revered presidents. The legacy and image of "The Great Emancipator" or "Honest Abe" has taken on a life of its own since the time of his assassination at the hands of John Wilkes Booth in 1865. He laid down his life in order to achieve his promise of holding the country together during its most trying and fragile time. This year saw commemoration of the hundredth anniversary of the Lincoln Memorial. In celebration of this milestone, this photo essay attempts document how Lincoln still shapes our society through the places and events that carry on his memory.

A painting of President Abraham Lincoln is seen in the window of Wendy Allen’s gallery, Lincoln Into Art on Sunday July 03, 2022 in Gettysburg, PA. People were gathering for the anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, which was fought July 1-3, 1863. Allen has been painting Lincoln in different styles for the majority of her career as a painter.</image:caption>
